How do I connect my hardware instruments to Camelot on my computer or iPad?

Modified on Mon, 29 Dec at 10:00 AM

Camelot uses MIDI to communicate with your computer so make sure to use a MIDI interface that works with your computer.

Your instruments can be connected to your macOS/ Windows computer using USB or Bluetooth.

If your instrument is equipped with a USB port, connect it to a USB port of your computer, using a USB cable. If you need to connect several hardware instruments, you may need a USB hub. In that case, we suggest using a powered hub.

If your instrument doesn't have USB midi ports, you can use a 5din-to-USB MIDI interface that is working with your OS (e.g. Roland UM-ONE mk2), or a Bluetooth interface (WIDI Master, Yamaha MDBT01).

Note: some devices require a specific driver to be installed on the computer. Please check the user manual of your instrument to get more details.

On iPad, you need a Camera Connection Kit (CCK) that allows you to connect a USB device to the tablet. We suggest using a powered CCK to ensure your iPad has enough energy for the whole performance.

Important notes:

  • Only Class Compliant USB devices are recognized by iOS
  • Check the right type of CCK port (Lightning vs USB-C)
