Can I Use My Own Reverb or External Effects? / Can I Turn Off the Internal Reverb?
Yes, you have the flexibility to incorporate your own reverb or external effects with SWAM instruments.
However, it's important to understand the difference between reverb and spatialization. The Ambiente Room Simulator not only adds reverb but also provides virtual positioning, simulating room reflections based on geometry and surface materials. This spatialization plays a key role in the realism and immersion of the final sound.
We recommend experimenting with Ambiente before adding additional effects — unlike many virtual instruments, the sound of SWAM instruments, just like real acoustic instruments, is highly influenced by the room and the placement of the musicians. By adjusting parameters like microphone distance, you can shape the sonic character to suit your needs.
If you prefer to use external processing:
You can turn off Ambiente from the Advanced parameters page, under the Room tab.
This will activate the legacy reverb module, which was preserved only for backward compatibility.
To completely disable it, go to the Effects tab on the main page and set the Mix to 0%.
💡 Note:
The legacy reverb is available for all SWAM Solo Instruments, except for VariFlute.
It was kept to allow users to reopen older projects created before the release of Ambiente and reproduce the same sound.
Since VariFlute was designed from the start with Ambiente, it does not include the legacy reverb module.
If you want a completely dry sound with VariFlute, simply place the instrument in the "Close Mic Room" using the Ambiente Room Simulator settings.
