Understanding the PolySWAM GUI

Modified on Thu, 9 Jul at 2:29 PM

PolySWAM's interface is designed for speed and clarity, allowing you to manage complex orchestral ensembles without getting lost in menus. The GUI is structured into three primary functional areas:

1. The Header (Navigation & Administration)

Located at the top, the Header is your control center for preset management and global settings.

  • Preset & Scene Management: View the currently loaded Preset and Variation (also referred to as a Scene). Clicking the preset name opens the browser to select new ensembles.

  • Action Buttons: Quickly reset the current Variation/Scene or trigger a MIDI Panic to silence stuck notes.

  • View Navigation: Use these buttons to switch between different workspaces:

    • Home: Displays the ensemble layout and spatial positioning of your instruments.

    • Ranges: Visualizes your keyboard splits and instrument distribution.

    • Room: Selects the virtual environment for your ensemble (powered by our proprietary "Ambiente" room simulator).

    • Mix: Accesses the Mixer and EQ for fine-tuning your sound (Features available from Beta 2).

  • Global Settings: Access the MIDI Mapping overlay, the Save Scene button (Beta 2), and the main "..." menu.

2. The Central View (Visual Workspace)

This area provides a visual representation of your performance environment.

  • Home View: Shows the ensemble as it is arranged in the virtual room. You can see all available instruments and their spatial placement.

  • Dynamic Representation: Depending on your chosen algorithm, the interface will visually update to show how instruments are distributed to handle your polyphonic performance.

3. The Footer (Performance & Expression)

The Footer houses the essential controls for musical performance, ensuring your most important tools are always accessible while you play.

  • Conductor Section: This is the heart of your expressive control. It displays the main Expression knob, two primary macro knobs, and up to eight buttons for discrete macro states.

  • Expandable View: If your preset requires deeper control, you can expand the Conductor section to reveal up to eight additional macro knobs.

  • Human Touch: Integrated controls that define the organic "human" quality of your performance, including pitch intonation, timing precision, and dynamic expression alignment.
