How MIDI Mapping Works in PolySWAM

Modified on Thu, 9 Jul at 2:36 PM

PolySWAM features an intuitive MIDI mapping system designed to give you total control over the Conductor section and beyond. By clicking the MIDI Mapping button, you enter a dedicated configuration mode that provides visual feedback across the interface.

Visual Feedback System

When MIDI Mapping is active, an overlay appears on the GUI:

  • Purple with dashed border: The control is currently assigned.

  • Green with solid border: The control is unassigned and ready to be mapped.

Mapping Configuration

Clicking on any control opens a dedicated mapping panel where you can fine-tune the assignment:

  • Left Column (Scope & Behavior):

    • Global vs. Local: Choose whether the mapping applies to all presets (Global) or only the current one (Local).

    • Mode: Select between direct control (Jump) or the smoother Pickup mode (available starting in Beta 2) to prevent value jumps when you move your physical faders/knobs.

    • Auto Unlink: A powerful feature for linked controls. Enabling this allows you to automatically "unlink" a parameter the moment you move its specifically assigned controller. This is ideal if, for example, you are using a master Expression control but occasionally need to take manual, detailed control of a secondary macro.

  • Center Column (Learn):

    • Use the Learn button to quickly assign your hardware.

    • You can also manually input assignment values directly into the fields provided.

  • Unassign & Reset: Easily remove an assignment or restore a control to its factory default settings.

Advanced Curve Modulation

Within the mapping panel, you can enable a response curve. The function of this curve depends on the state of the control:

  • If Linked: The curve modulates the Expression remapping.

  • If Unlinked: The curve changes color and applies to the direct modulation of the assigned controller.

View Options: Assign vs. Table

In the MIDI Mapping header, you can toggle between two view modes:

  1. Assign: The overlay-based view on the GUI, ideal for "Learn" workflows.

  2. Table: A comprehensive list view that summarizes all active mappings. Clicking any row in this table allows you to quickly access the detailed settings for that specific assignment.

Do you need further clarification on the "Pickup" mode, or perhaps more information on how to configure complex curves for specific instruments?
